Angel's Story

Angel Thompson

"It is a big tumor...it will require surgery....it is likely cancer...it is not a good prognosis." These are the things that strike fear in the heart of any parent. This is what Alan and Myra Thompson heard about their wonderful five year old daughter Angel after a visit to the ER and further testing. Angel underwent surgery on March 3, 2010 for a large brain tumor in the cerebellum and brain stem. Doctors removed 95% of the tumor. The diagnosis is "juvenile pylocytic astrocytoma."

In August of 2011 it was found that there was more activity with Angel's tumor. What does tomorrow mean for th Thompson family? Many have asked....what is next...what can be done....what can we do to help?

"We are so humbled by the tremendous love, prayers, and support you each have shared and please know in your hearts that you have made a difference and offered light in a somewhat cloudy time. Tomorrow means that we move forward." To read more about Angel's journey go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/angelthompson or click on "Angels Links" at the bottom.

Moving Forward

After receiving the recommendations of Angel's neurosurgeons, oncologist, a consult with St. Jude's hospital and friends in the medical community, this is the tentative schedule for the next course of treatment:

- March 26th - Surgery (with extended hopsitalization and probably inpatient therapy)

- Post surgery chemotherapy for 60 weeks unless surgeon is absolutely certain all cancer cells have been removed.

"What we have persevered in is this.....we will not give up. Angel has taught us that she will not give in , neither will we. We will not quit and we will not stop believing. Tomorrow might be different, but it will still be tomorrow with our little girl."

Alan Thompson

Alan Thompson has served as Cabarrus EMS Assistant Director since 2005. He began his career in Emergency Medical Services in 1985 before coming to Cabarrus EMS in 1990. He currently serves as a tactical paramedic with the Kannapolis Police tactical team. It is hard to put into words how much Alan has done for this community, and now we have the opportunity to help him and his family.

How We Can Help

Come out and support us at Bass Pro Shops at Concord Mills. Beginning on April 19th at 11:00 am, members of Alan Thompson's Emergency Services family will be on top of Bass Pro Shops, attempting to collect enough money to help pay for Angel's medical bills and allow Angel's parents, Myra and Alan Thompson, to be by her side through this difficult journey. Alan's extended Emergency Services family will stay on the Bass Pro Shops roof around the clock to attempt to raise $100,000by the end of the weekend. If your organization would like to help collect beforehand, then bring your total collection to the fundraiser to be part of this upraising event for Angel and her family.
